Changes taking effect on 1 September 2026

Three significant changes land at the start of the 2026/27 academic year. KCSIE 2026 was published for information on 7 July 2026 — you must keep working to KCSIE 2025 until 31 August. The headline actions:

Annex A withdrawn — every member of staff, including those who do not work directly with children, must now read Part one of KCSIE in full.
Volunteer DBS checks — the supervision exemption is removed from regulated activity, so many previously exempt volunteers now need an enhanced DBS check with children's barred list information. This needs lead time.
Filtering and monitoring — effectiveness must be reviewed at least once every academic year and the review recorded.
RSHE — the updated statutory guidance becomes mandatory, so curriculum and policy must be in place.
